TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Carole Baskin, who became a pop culture sensation due to Netflix’s docuseries “Tiger King,” has asked the Florida Supreme Court to review an appellate court's ruling that said she isn't protected from a defamation lawsuit brought by a former assistant. Baskin last week asked the high court to reconsider its earlier denial of her appeal in the defamation case brought by Anne McQueen, a former assistant to her missing husband. A provision of the Florida Constitution and the U.S. Constitution conflicts with the appellate court's ruling, Baskin said in her filing with the Florida Supreme Court. The “Tiger King” documentary was about Joseph Maldonado-Passage, also known as “Joe Exotic,” a former Oklahoma zookeeper. Baskin also was a contestant on the show, “Dancing With The Stars” in 2020.

When it came to what was very important to them, we adjusted their agreements to reflect that. We did reach out to a few people for “Subject” who weren’t ready to go back into that place but still loved the idea. For example, Carole and Howard from “Tiger King” became supporters of “Subject.” And Mark Borchardt [of “American Movie”] was a great sounding board. Did you cut anything from “Subject" based on feedback from participants? TIEXIERA: The biggest hurdle was when Susanne and [one of her sons] Mukunda agreed to be part of “Subject,” and Mukunda’s brothers did not want to be.

I AM NOT a morning person—in fact, I’m barely an afternoon one. Having an internal clock with the same operating hours as a Berlin nightclub was fine during lockdown when I could roll onto a 9 a.m. Zoom in my pajama top that, on a laptop screen, looked enough like a blouse to fool colleagues. But 100% remote work has become a more distant memory than “Tiger King,” and recently, my work obligations have required me to schedule in-person morning meetings and interviews and to arrive suitably attired.
In a Fox News interview, the "Tiger King" star blamed the Trump Administration for his conviction. A prerecorded message interrupted the interview, saying, "This call is from a federal prison." The "Tiger King" star previously tried and failed to get a presidential pardon from Trump, and he appears to have held a grudge for being omitted from the pardon list ever since. During a phone interview from Atlanta Penitentiary with Fox News' Lawrence Jones, Exotic blamed the Trump Administration for putting him behind bars. In his closing statement during the interview, Exotic encouraged people to visit his campaign website to learn more about his platform, but he was cut off as viewers were inadvertently reminded where he was calling from.
Nine days after the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a pandemic, “Tiger King” premiered. In this time of relative calm, it’s possible to see the pandemic as not just a crisis of public health but also a distinct cultural era with its own emerging canon. What unites these shows, movies, books and songs is not a common aesthetic or shared themes. We asked an array of cultural critics to consider the following 17 artifacts, each of which captured something essential during Covid. These works reflected a tumultuous moment back at us, illuminating it and us, too.
Joe Exotic welcomed Donald Trump to the club of presidential candidates charged with crimes. "Former President Trump now that you have been indicted- Welcome to the party!" Exotic wrote on Instagram. The "Tiger King" star took to Instagram to welcome Trump to the "party" after Trump was indicted on Thursday. Despite being in prison, Exotic announced on Twitter in March that he had launched a long-shot 2024 presidential bid.
Joe Exotic of "Tiger King" fame is running a long-shot 2024 campaign as a libertarian. At press time, Exotic's 2024 campaign appeared to still need some staffers. Exotic listed several "celebrities and influencers" who he says have endorsed him, including a man named Seth Posey, whose occupation is listed only as "Joe's fiancé." Angela McArdle, chair of the Libertarian Party, slammed Exotic's campaign in an interview with TMZ on March 19. Exotic, McArdle, and Meester did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment outside regular business hours.
In her experiments to date, Watsa has been able to detect Sumatran tiger DNA in soil and determine the sex of the animal. Paw prints made by 4-year-old Sumatran tiger Rakan at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park help researcher Mrinalini Watsa develop a cost-effective technique to detect tiger DNA in soil. He believes DNA techniques could help scientists better understand how some tigers disperse between different areas, which can be hard to pick up with cameras. “DNA techniques will also be useful where camera trapping is difficult,” he added, such as the remote, mountainous regions in Southeast Asia. The analysis of tiger DNA in soil samples could help forensic investigations in the battle against the illegal wildlife trade.
